  • Chief Mrs Betty Ubeku's Bio:  Chief Mrs Betty Ubeku holds the B.Sc. (Hons) in Business Administration from University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba, Lagos. She worked at the Defence Ministry, Apapa, Lagos before she moved to UAC, Niger House headquarters, Marina, Lagos and later made her mark at the Standard Bank Nigeria Limited, now renamed First bank Plc. She has contributed, in a unique way, to charity and got involved in a number of non-governmental Organization (NGOs) for the uplift of the poor and humanity. Mrs. Ubeku’s first link with the humanitarian services was with the Save Our Souls (SOS) Children’s Village, ISOLO.

    She was a member of the Preparatory Team Steering Committee to Dakar, in 1994 and China in 1995 where she was mandated to prepare and present a finished Craft Work on behalf of Nigerian women with other countries for twining at the Great Wall for Peace in Beijing, China, at the NGOs local level forum under the African platform of action which earned her an Interview by CNN International and national coverage.

    Also, this show of commitment enabled her further as a delegate participant at the on going conference, UN Level where Mrs. Ubeku was again, among those who received a “Torchlight” a Baton to touch other women including the children, a growth at the grass roots to commemorate the UN, China Beijing’95. Following this, she initiated a Networking Organisation named Women Care Association of Nigeria [WOCAN] with Motto: Reach Out And Touch. Mother And Child Survival. In 1997, due to her sterling quality, Mrs. Ubeku was among those nominated at the International Conference of the African First Ladies held at that time in Abuja as member of the Steering Committee of the West African Women Association (WAWA) to represent the South/South geographical Zone to set up the Nigeria Chapter of the Association. Mrs. Ubeku got nominated as the Focal Person of the West African Women Association (WAWA), Nigeria in 2007.

    Mrs Ubeku who happened to be the founder of Women Care Association of Nigeria (WOCAN) has since combined coordination of the overall objective (WAWA) is to mobilize women participation in regional economic integration decision.404 have equally showered Lion Ubeku with several Awards and recognition in appreciation of her invaluable services and cooperation Certificates including a Plaque-Woman of Honour for distinguished services extended to humanity. Currently appointed as chairperson under the International Association Lions Clubs Multiple District 404 Nigeria to coordinate it’s activities to mark its 31st annual historical event Lions with United Nations held in Nigeria, at the Nigeria Institute Intl. Affairs Lagos- theme: Peace & Leadership in Africa 2009 including youths the Leos young ones. The successes of her role earned Mrs Ubeku an International Lions President’s Commendation Award for distinguishing herself as an “EVERYDAY HERO BY CREATING MIRACLES THROUGH SERVICE”

    Betty Ubeku, who lives her life for the happiness and joy of others had been deservedly honoured with National and International Awards. ECOWAS region, the Apini Ladies Group, crowned her MAMA ADOBI II (Queen Mother) in Kpando, Upper Volta Region, Ghana, in November 1995. Also, in July 1998, Mrs. Ubeku was decorated with the 1998/99 Melvin Jones Fellowship (MJF) Pin and presented the MJF Award Plague at the Lions International Convention in Birmingham. It is the highest form of recognition conferred by the Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF) and also, she became the 2nd person in the District 404, Nigeria to receive the Lions International Growth Award.
