We are delighted to inform and invite you to African fashion Week Nigeria, an initiative which seeks “to
create a platform to promote, encourage and celebrate emerging African
& Nigerian designers by exposing them to a global audience which
include media houses, fashion buyers and the general public thereby
helping them achieve maximum publicity, develop clientele and quickly
carve an economic self sustenance niche for themselves, on the
competitive international sphere”.
The AFW London
is an annual event that was created in 2011 and since inception
consistently from 2011 to 2013 (3years running ) it has showcased over
200 Africa designers (50% of which are Nigerians) to a global audience
of up 40,000 and enjoyed generous media coverage on various
international main stream media like financial times, The Metro, CNN,
BBC China, BBC Africa, The Voice, The Telegraph, Evening Standard,
Nigeria Tribune, This Day just to mention but a few.
The
4th annual AFWLondon takes place in August 2014 at the Olympia London
on the 8th & 9th of August rounding up with a charity Gala at the
Dorchester Hotel.
We
decided to host the fashion week in Nigeria and use the platform reach
out to creative young up coming designers who cannot afford to showcase
on an international platform for now. And also using the support of
established designers as well.
The
maiden edition of AFW Nigeria kicks off with a street catwalk on the
17th of May, and the fashion show takes place on the 18th of May at the
Eko Hotel and Suites, rounding up with a charity fashion Gala in
support of the sickle cell foundation.

It
has so far won the endorsement of the Fashion Designers Association of
Nigeria, The Lagos State Government and The Federal House of
Representatives Committee on Diaspora as being worthy of support.
The aims of AFW Nigeria are to:
- Provide start-up funds for young talented designers to be mentored by experts in their field.
- Showcase the works of talented Nigerian designers on an international platform.
- Create job opportunities for young and talented designers.
- Provide training programmes to reduce youth unemployment.
- Exhibit the richness of Nigerian textiles, prints and designs to regenerate the Nigerian Textile Industry.
The
event will consist of a red carpet welcome, Cocktail reception, a 3
course dinner, a well Choreographed Fashion show with veteran designer,
Hajia Abba Folawiyo (Labanella) closing the show and World Class
Entertainment.
