The
Certificate Course in Documentary Film Production is meant to build
skills and competencies needed to engage in the medium acknowledged to
be a huge area of need in Nigeria and Africa. Seen as an important
support skill for the growing film and home video industry, this course
could not have come up at a better time than now. The course will be
practice-centred and will be supervised for the most part by the experts
from Goldsmiths, University of London with the aim of transferring knowledge and expertise to the participants.
The course primarily aims to teach the basic skills involved in working with the TV/video documentary form. Through practical exercises and experimentation and through analysis of documentary work, it encourages a practical understanding of the aesthetics, politics and ethics of documentary production.
By the end of the programme, students (in their production groups) should be able to apply a thorough understanding of inter-related production practices to the making of an original screen documentary to a level suitable for public exhibition in Nigeria and the world.

- Make informed and creative decisions at every stage of the production process, enabling them to originate and direct documentary material to a standard suitable for public exhibition.
- Understand, question and apply where appropriate the basic principles of narrative and structure in documentary filmmaking
- Distinguish between, and critically evaluate, a variety of documentary and factual styles and genres, and apply the insights gained to their own production work.
